Spanish contractor FCC has appointed Arnold Schiefer as the new CEO of its Austrian subsidiary Alpine, effective at the start of April.

Mr Schiefer replaces Johannes Dotter, who stepped down in October 2012.

FCC said Mr Scheifer, who was formerly chairman of the board at Rail Cargo Austria, would direct the process of transforming the group to ensure that it retains its position in its domestic markets, mainly Austria and Germany.

In addition, the new strategic direction of the contractor will also see it target business in Central and Eastern Europe

Alpine recently reached an agreement with the Austrian government and its main creditors to restructure the group and refinance its debt.
