Three Dynapac CA 250 single drum vibratory rollers are preparing the sub-base and base course for a new 38 km highway linking the new resort city of Durrat Al Bahrain (the Pearl of Bahrain) and Manama. The Atkins designed resort comprises 13 islands with over 2000 villas, hotels, shopping centres, marinas and an 18 hole golf course.

Sub-contractor Bramco is responsible for the earth works, sub-base and base courses. Using limestone as the core material, Bramco is compacting a 150 mm sub-base and 300 mm base course using the three rollers to achieve a 95 to 98% specified Modified Proctor.

In general 12 passes are made over a 50 m pass length using the Dynapac CA 250s, an 11 tonne class roller powered by a Cummins 4BTA diesel engine (84 kW). The machine features a 2130 mm wide drum and is designed to compact up to 700 m3 of material per hour.

Bahrain Asphalt has been appointed as sub-contractor for the wearing course and will use Dynapac CC 322 and CC 222 double drum rollers and CP 271 pneumatic rollers to complete the work.
