Caterpillar has announced its machines are to have a fresh new look, with its original graphic design, known as ‘Power Edge’ being replaced by ‘Cat Modern Hex’.

The company said its Cat Modern Hex design would combine its traditional trademark and product model names with a bold, three-dimensional red hexagon and grille pattern. The red colour is said to be a throwback to the graphics used on the company’s first-ever crawler tractors in 1925.

The new branding was designed by the Caterpillar Industrial Design Group.

Ed Stembridge, product identity manager, said, “Our goal was to create something with a premium look and feel. When you combine the Modern Hex design with our distinctive Cat product designs, it visually reminds customers they are buying and using the best products on the market.”

The company said it would have its whole product line updated to the new branding by 2020.
