Oakland orders TwinLifts

19 March 2008

RAM Spreaders was contracted to provide double lift capacity for dockside cranes at APL's Oakland Terminal in California, US.

It fitted three model 2640 Twinlift spreaders to the existing MHI cranes which were only capable of single lift operations.

“RAM's task was not only to supply new spreaders but also to upgrade the controls and communications systems between crane and spreader to allow the Twin lifting operations to be performed,” said a company spokesperson.

RAM also installed ASIG interface (ASiGateway) panels, allowing the cranes to communicate with the spreader via two spare cores in the existing spreader umbilical cable.

In addition, RAM Touch Screen Test Panels were added to each spreader with integrated diagnostic display screens, showing the status of every electrical component.

Following tests APL decided to replace conventional switches and wiring on all its existing spreaders with ASi, the RAM spokesperson added.
