OSHA’s crane personnel qualifications webinar
14 October 2013
OSHA's decision to postpone the effective date of its crane operator qualification requirements (Subpart CC of 29 CFR 1926) to allow time for additional rulemaking surprised the industry and has led to confusion as to the legal responsibilities for qualifying employees who work with and around cranes.
Graham Brent, National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) in the USA, will provide a comprehensive review of those responsibilities from a federal perspective. In addition, Brent will discuss the two central issues, certifying by crane capacity and whether certification is equivalent to qualification, which prompted OSHA to announce its intention to reopen the crane rule, will be examined. The industry responses to requests for input by OSHA on these issues will be analysed for insight into the possible direction OSHA rulemaking may take in the future.
The webinar will be on 23 October at 12 pm US Eastern Time. It is free for SC&RA members and US$ 49 for non-members. Register at: www2.scranet.org/core/events/events.aspx
