Two special machines from PB have been developed for a Japanese aircraft manufacturer.

Based on the manufacturer’s Top 12 series, a large number of customer-specific developments were made to the pair of scissors for use on aircraft. The compact nature of the platforms was especially designed for repair and maintenance in the tight spaces between the fuselage, engines and wings.

To access hard-to-reach places on the aircraft, PB developed a hydraulic, lateral steel platform extension, with a width of 1.20m and an extension of 0.8m, resulting in an about 1.3 m lateral working area.

The units were sold through Hydro systems, a market leader in ground support equipment (GSE).

Due to the sensitivity and cost around working with aircraft, damage must be avoided. For this reason the PB machines are equipped with a range of safety features. Central to this is a pneumatic-electric Barger pressure wave system (shut-off strips). For the ideal positioning of the sensors, the entire platform has been adapted and special sensor brackets for the chassis developed, meaning every conceivable machine movement is covered.

Other features include a lateral doubledoor, a single foldable handrail and a special, freely positionable LED-work light on the platform.

PB said the special design of the PB S65-12E SP is based on many years’ experience of its engineers,

welding and assembly department and the know-how of the electrical department, which develops and programs its own electronic control systems.
