Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) has called for tenders to complete the Biskupiec-Borki Wielkie section of national road No. 16.

The action followed the insolvency of previous contractor Alpine Bau, according to PMR.

The market research company reported that GDDKiA will appoint a new contractor by mid September and that the new firm will have three months to complete work on the No. 16 highway.

GDDKiA estimates that 90% of the 8.2km road section is already complete. It said the new contractor would be charged with laying the final asphalt layer on half of the road as well as completing the construction of an animal crossing and installing traffic safety equipment and road signs.

GDDKiA also recently called for two other tenders for work on the same section of road, including repairing subsidence along the road embankment. It said this work would be carried out in tandem with the finishing work along the same section, and GDDKiA said it expected the road to be completed and open to motorists before the winter.
