Port crane order

The Uddevalla Hamnterminal port in Sweden has placed an order for a Gottwald Model 3 portal harbour crane from Finnish crane manufacturer Konecranes. The crane is scheduled for delivery in autumn 2019 and will be ready for work from December 2019.

The crane ordered is a G HSK 3432 variant. It is a two-rope crane mounted on rails enabling it to integrate with the port’s existing infrastructure. It has a maximum lifting capacity of 100 tonnes and a radius of 46 metres.

In order to reduce their ecological footprint, Uddevalla opted for a crane equipped with an external power supply, to make use of existing local grid electricity. Konecranes said this results in less noise, zero localised exhaust emissions, and reduced operational costs.

The new crane will join an existing Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour crane which was installed in 1986. “Its longevity is impressive,” said Ulf Stenberg, managing director of Uddevalla Hamnterminal. “It still works well though we’ve kept up maintenance. We like this crane a lot but it can only lift 40 tonnes; we wanted a more powerful crane to help us manage the growing demands for cargo handling in our terminal.”

Uddevalla is located in the south-west of Sweden, about 80 km north of Gothenburg. Konecranes described it as a ‘small but important port’ and said that this will be the first Gottwald portal harbour crane in the country, opening up the market there for this type of crane.
