GGR group helped install a luxury swimming pool for the president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Khalifa in the Empty Quarter desert.

The company's UAE branch GGR Group and Orientals Lifting LLC, transported a Unic URW 506 mini spider crane and Hydraulica 1000 glass vacuum lifter 420 km from Dubai to Sheikh Khalifa's new palace, on the border of Saudi Arabia and Oman.

The 3 tonne capacity URW-506 travelled down a 42 km driveway before reaching the entrance to the palace which is located in the middle of one of the world's largest deserts.

Glazing began on the swimming pool which required the installation of dozens of glass panels, each weighing 750 kg. With a 6 m overhang to overcome, the lightweight Unic 506 mini crane was positioned on the roof of the palace and combined with a 1,000 kg capacity glass vacuum lifter to safely lower the glass into position.

GGR provided on-site traiining. "This was one of the most challenging locations that we have ever provided training in for our lifting equipment," saidGary Jones, GGR Gulf project manager. "However the 840 km round trip into the desert dunes was the best drive to work I've ever had."
