Progress on fibre ropes at WCTS
09 October 2017
A development engineer at the heart of the development of synthetic fibre ropes for crane applications will give an update on current progress at the World Crane and Transport Summit (WCTS) in Amsterdam.
Jim Plaia, a research and development engineer at USA-based rope specialist Samson, said there was much discussion of the advantages of synthetic fibre ropes but the technology “also poses some technical challenges for crane operations. I’ll be discussing the status of a number of efforts intended to address challenges involved in the use of fibre ropes on cranes and lifting in general. Many of these efforts are coming to fruition and showing the powerful tool they represent for the lifting industry.”
Plaia’s presentation, Closing the knowledge gaps for synthetic fibre crane ropes, will be on the first day of the conference on 7 November.
The one and a half day event is on 7 and 8 November at the NH Grand Krasnapolsky hotel in Amsterdam. For more information, visit www.khl-wcts.com
