Caterpillar enjoyed its best third quarter ever this year, with sales of US$ 11.4 billion and profit of US$ 927 million for the three months ending September 30. Sales were up +8% on the same period last year, while profits rose +21%. North American revenues were down –11%, but the rest of the world was extremely buoyant.
