Rental HQ

10 April 2008

The Rental Show has been happy to announce another sell-out Rental Show, with Las Vegas again proving a big puller for exhibitors, even if the much bigger Conexpo-Con/Agg show takes place just a month later in the same city.

If Conexpo's strength will be an enormous range of equipment on show, the Rental Show is still a great place to see new compact machines and well as the latest aerial platforms – the ARA's annual convention has long been seen as a special showcase for the aerials business.

Visitors this year will not be disappointed: JLG will have its redesigned ES electric scissors as well as its G5-18A super compact telehandler; Genie will show the S-60/S-65 Trax telescopic booms, offering operators exceptional traction and flotation in many difficult terrains. (Genie will also have a redesigned GTH-5519 telehandler on its stand.)

Look out also for important launches from Aichi USA – with new ‘global series' electric scissors and telescopic booms being launched – and Snorkel, which will show a lot of UpRight-design scissors and booms that will now be sold in North America under the Snorkel brand. Sister company UpRight will have trailer-mounted platforms, among other equipment, at the Rental Show.

MEC Aerial Platforms has its first-ever telescopic boom, as well as new scissor lifts, and Bil-Jax will be adding to its new X-boom range of self-propelled machines.

One definite innovation will be a new range of electric scissor lifts from New Jersey company Airtrax, which is using a special wheel design that allows very precise movements in any direction.

On the compact equipment side, there will be new products on show from manufacturers including Compact Power, Ditch Witch and Bandit Industries. Compact Power will show its recently introduced Boxer model, the 532DX mini-skid, a track-driven diesel unit that “is ideal for the landscaping, rental and construction markets and a wide range of other industries and applications.”

Ditch Witch, meanwhile, is introducing the new Zahn series of compact tool carriers. The Zahn R150 trencher “ is designed to be more powerful, more productive, and faster than any trencher in the 15-hp class”, and there are two larger models, the Zahn R230 and R300. The latter is a 4-wheel drive model capable of carrying more than 40 quick-change attachments.

Bandit will be introducing the 1090XP, a compact drum-style chipper. With a 12 in (0.3 m) capacity and weighing between 5300 and 6300 lb (2400-2860 kg), the chipper is mounted on a single 7000 lb (3180 kg) axle. The 1090XP can operate with engines in the 65 to 140 hp (48.5 to 104 kW) range.
