Riedl takes on nuclear generator

Germany's Riedl Group called on the support of two of its lifting and manufacturing divisions when asked to move a 450 tonne generator stator from a nuclear power plant at Karlich, Germany, for transport overseas.

An LHS 600 strand jack lifting system, designed and built by the engineering team at Riedl & Tschierschke, was used for the lift out operation of the generator stator.

The generator had to be lifted from the building's basement. It was then carried 30 metres in the air to the loading position, turned 90 degrees, and lowered 18 m into a specially designed frame, also constructed at the workshop of Riedl & Tschierschke.

Lifting specialist Rolf Riedl was brought in to handle the lifting of the turbine rotors, which weighed 240 tonnes. Riedl & Tschierschke undertook design and construction of the transport frames for the rotor.
