Manufacturer Penny + Giles claims that its SRH880 contactless rotary position sensor is fully submersible and that it has a virtually limitless life. Supplied with an 88 mm stainless steel or aluminium housing rated to IP68M, the sensor has a 12 mm diameter shaft and operates at depths to 2 m on an 8 to 30 V dc unregulated supply, with electrICal outputs over 90, 180, 270 or the full 360 degree range. Signal output is either pulse width modulated digital or analogue (0.5 to 4.5 V dc). Supplied with a 10 bit mICroprocessor, the unit will also be available later this year in a 12 bit version.
