RRS moves PSP

In the UK, electrical company Kent Group commissioned transport and storage specialist Rapid Response Solutions (RRS) to deliver a 25 tonne principal supply point (PSP) for Siemens as part of a Network Rail signal upgrade project.

The PSP was 14.6 metres long, 3 m wide, and 3.1 m high. To transport it between Kent Group’s base and the job site RRS used a Volvo three-axle tractor unit with a Nooteboom four-axle extending semi low loader. A 300 tonne capacity Hydra-Slide HT300 hydraulic skidding system was then used to move the PSP into place. A crane could not be used due to the proximity of rail power lines.

RSS said it used the Volvo tractor and Nooteboom semi low loader to keep the overall length of the vehicles as short as possible due to a tight turn on the planned route which needed to be navigated.

The company said it used the HT300 skidding system because it can support loads without its four six-metre skidding tracks being fully supported, eliminating the need for support beams or extra packers.

The PSP was delivered in difficult conditions, which included snow, and the journey required two lorry drivers, two escort drivers, and four riggers.
