Salini Impregilo clinches US contracts

Lane, a US subsidiary of Italian contractor Salini Impregilo, has been awarded two US contracts, together worth US$400 million.

In North Carolina, the company was selected as best value proposer for a $346 million contract to design and build improvements to the I440/US 1 highway from south of Walnut Street to north of Wade Avenue. The works include the widening of a 10.5km section of the interstate from four to six lanes to ease traffic access and flow, as well as the replacement of pavements and bridges and the upgrading of interchanges.

Work is scheduled to start in early 2019 and is expected to be completed by mid-2023.

In Tennessee, Lane was chosen for a $39 million contract to upgrade a major treatment plant in Knoxville. The facility’s secondary treatment capacity of sanitary sewer flows during heavy rainfall will be increased to about 454 million litres per day.

Construction is due to start immediately and be completed by 2021.

Pietro Salini, chief executive of Salini Impregilo, said, “These two new contracts that we have won in the United States will help us to strengthen our position in the country, which has become our single biggest market by revenue.

“They also confirm the strong trend that we have enjoyed in the acquisition of new orders, in line with our target for 2018, which we see as being achievable as we also take into account other potential contract wins towards the end of the year.”
