Sandvik makes move into mobiles
20 March 2008
According to Sandvik president Lars Josefsson “We have an ambition to be number one in the areas in which we operate. We have been active in mobiles since 2001 through the acquisition of Svedala, but as a minor player. We could have expanded organically, but we had the joint ownership of Fintec and the opportunity to acquire other companies. We will extend our offering with the Fintec and Extec acquisitions. We see this market as being substantial and worth going after.”
Interestingly, in conversation with D&Ri, Mr Josefsson said that current planning was for Sandvik to be able to offer a range of crushers with capacities from 50 tonnes/hour upwards. Since the Fintec machines currently offer capacities from over 100 tonnes/hour and above, this means that there is a gap in the current joint product line–up.
When asked how this gap would be filled, Mr Josefsson did not rule out further acquisitions once Fintec and Extec had been integrated into the Sandvik structure, although internal developments were another possibility for completing the range.
