The Specialized Carriers & Rigging (SC&R) Foundation has awarded US$27,000 in scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3000 for 12 students preparing for careers related to the crane, rigging and specialized transportation industry in 2016-2017. in addition, the foundation awarded $13,000 in grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 to five individuals to further their careers through continuing education courses or a vocational or technical college programme.

Since 1986 the SC&R Foundation has awarded more than $475,000 in scholarships and grants.

This year’s scholarship recipients are:

  • Jacob Bussiere - $3,000 towards tuition for a degree in marine engineering at Maine Maritime Academy
  • Spencer Campbell - $1,000 towards a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations at East Kentucky University
  • Olivia Fidler - $1,000 in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics at West Virginia University
  • Gregg Harvey - $3,000 towards a degree in civil and industrial engineering at Lehigh University
  • Chloe Lonergan - $3,000 will go towards a Bachelor of Science degree in operations management information system at the State University of New York
  • Spencer Lynds - $3,000 scholarship will help towards a degree in civil/environmental engineering at the University of Massachusetts
  • Tyler Owens - $3,000 towards a degree at the University of Kentucky in mechanical engineering
  • Lacey Rucker - $1,500 in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration at the University of Missouri
  • Cassidy West - $1,000 will go towards a Bachelor of Science degree in business at University of Alabama
  • Atton Willson - $1,500 scholarship in pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts degree in business at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg
  • Brian Winburn - $3,000 towards a degree in management at Indiana Wesleyan University
  • Montrashay Worley - $3,000 in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in business administration and organisational leadership

In addition, grants were awarded to:

  • John Dailey - $3,500 for MCO1, MCO2 and NCCCO certification at the Crane Inspection and Certification Bureau in Texas
  • Aaron Ochoa - $1,500 for NCCCO preparatory coursework for Mobile Crane 2 certification at the Crane Inspection and Certification Bureau in Texas
  • Nicholas Ozgar – $5,000 for a certificate in heavy equipment/diesel technology from Lincoln Technical Institute, New Jersey
  • Nathan Turley - $2,500 to gain mobile crane certification from Tower Crane School of Phoenix, Arizona
  • Dasch Underwood - $500 in pursuit of a certificate in permit-required confined space entry from the Mid-America OSHA Education Centre in Cincinnati, Ohio
