Sennebogen makes space for housing

A Sennebogen 1100 E crawler crane has removed hundreds of metres of sheet piling to prepare a site in Milan, Italy, for a new housing project.
Sheet piling is a structural component placed at a suitable depth under the foundation pit and joined to create a vertical wall known as a sheet pile wall, which guards against water and supports the ground. It can be permanent or temporary , but if it is only being used for a limited time, the wall removed when the work finishes and reused elsewhere. This was the case in Milan.
The company using the crane, Venice-based Locapal was commissioned by Dutch group Arcadis to lift out 150 sheet piles of 10 m (33 ft) in length and 130 of 13 m (42 ft). The 1100 E is one of four of the German manufacturer’s cranes in Locapal’s fleet, and once an excavator had “discovered” the sheet piles in the ground, it was put to work. The 1100 E has a load capacity of 50 t and, equipped with a compaction attachment, it pulls the sheet piles out of the ground and places them neatly nearby.
“Crawler cranes are important machines when it comes to heavy lifting and assembly work during building construction,” said Locapal owner Claudio Pizzamano.
