Swedish company Skanska has signed a SEK 1 billion (US$ 122 million) contract to improve both lanes of the Interstate 5 freeway in Tacoma, US.

The contract – which the company signed with the Washington State Department of Transportation – will include improving the freeway at its interchange with Washington State Route 16.

The high-occupancy vehicle (HOC) lanes will see four direct connector ramps between the SR 16 HOV lanes and the 1-5 HOV lanes.

Construction will begin in September 2016, and is scheduled for completion in July 2019.

The company said the contract value would be included in the order bookings for Skanska USA Civil in the third quarter of 2016.
