Skanska has been awarded a £128.5 million (€153 million) contract by the UK’s Highways Agency to carry out construction works on the M1 motorway, junction 19.

Construction will start in January 2014 and is scheduled for completion in autumn/winter 2016/2017.

The scope of works includes the construction of direct free-flow links easing traffic movements at the intersections linking the M1, M6 and A14. The junction will be built on three levels, to a similar height to the existing junction. The scheme also includes refurbishment works to local roads.

Skanska executive vice president Bill Hocking said, “This is a complex project at the intersection of two major motorways and we are delighted to agree the final target cost with the Highways Agency."
