Snorkel opens new scissor plant

15 April 2008

Snorkel is to open a new scissor lift assembly facility, a move that is expected to triple the company's scissor production capacity. The new, leased location (a mile from the company's main plant in St. Joseph, MO) will increase total production space by 50,000 to 350,000 square feet.

“Scissor sales have been very strong and with new models just around the corner, we needed to increase our production numbers and be prepared for future growth,” said Frank Scarborough, COO of Snorkel International. “We anticipate continued growth both in our existing models and with the new introductions.”

The first scissors were completed in mid December 2006, according to the company.

Meanwhile, Scarborough said the new models, which staff reporters understand to be large diesel scissors, will not be available until the end of this year or first half of 2008. The company is also expanding its boom line, with articulated AB80J and AB85RJ models. The latter will debut at the Rental Show.
