Southern expands AT fleet
27 February 2017
UK-based crane rental and contract lifting company, Southern Cranes & Access, has invested in two new Terex AC 40/2Ls and a new Demag AC 160-5 all terrain cranes. These will join a fleet of 45 cranes operating from the company’s six depots in the south east of England.
The AC 40/2L is Terex’s best-selling two-axle crane in the 40 tonne capacity class. It has a 37.4-metre boom making it what the manufacturer describes as “one of the most compact and easy-to-operate cranes in its class”. It is fitted with the latest cabin and is powered by a Tier 4 Final engine.
The second crane, the AC 160-5, on a five-axle carrier, has a 68 metre main boom, and a 21 m double folding fly jib. The carrier is 2.75 m wide, making it particularly suitable for city centre work. It also has an IC-1 Plus control system which calculates lifting capacities for every position of the boom subject to the slewing angle of the superstructure. Terex says this enables customers to use the maximum lifting capacity, especially when lifting over the outriggers.
