Speedy Hire has invested almost £0.8 million (€0.9 million) in a new fleet of 1250 kVA generating sets to target international major projects business, in particular in the utilities sector.

The containerised gensets, supplied by Cummins Power Generation, will provide on-site or emergency back-up power for large scale projects in the utilities, facilities management, major events, shipping, industrial and manufacturing sectors.

Anna Currie, technical director at Speedy Hire, said: "The international major projects market is the fastest growing generator rental market in Europe - conservative estimates value it at around £50 million per year, with annual growth of 7.5 per cent.

"The majority of the market is in the utilities sector and we are seeing year-round demand, especially from Mediterranean countries. Our customer base in this market is growing rapidly and usage of our existing fleet frequently has been frequently reaching 100 per cent."

The Cummins 1250kVA Powerbox units use the KTA50G3 engine and the generators are fully bunded to contain all spillages, avoiding site pollution.
