Visitors to the iconic Carnaby Street, in the heart of London’s West End, are being treated to a Christmas display with a tropical twist.

This year organisers have brought a touch of the Caribbean with carnival-themed Christmas decorations and illuminations. These includes 30 neon coconut trees, 27 giant party poppers, eight incredible tropical flowers, eight feathery parrots, two colourful toucans, two neon flamingos and a pair of parakeets, recalling the memory of those released by music legend Jimi Hendrix in the 1960s on Carnaby Street.

With most of the installation work being carried out at height, Star Platforms was called upon to provide the required powered access. Bi-energy articulated booms were selected to provide the required reach, while minimising air and noise pollution that would have been an issue with diesel-only equipment. Two Genie Z45/25 bi-energy booms and a Niftylift HR12 4x4 gave the team exactly what was needed and all three featured the ever-important secondary-guarding systems, as do all Star Platforms’ booms.

Joint managing director Steve Simmons commented, “We assist with the installation of many seasonal decorations across the UK and are delighted to have been able to help bring the joy of Christmas to Carnaby Street’s many visitors this year.”
