Strabag to upgrade Berlin railway station

Austrian contractor Strabag has been awarded a contract valued at €154 million, to upgrade Berlin-Köpenick station.

The contract represents the final element of the project to upgrade the west-east corridor between Berlin and the Polish border at Frankfurt an der Oder.

Construction work should start next spring, with operations at the station expected from 2027.

Strabag Rail – working on the project with Strabag AG, Strabag Fahrleitungen and Zublin Stahlbau – will be responsible for renewing a 3km section of track, which will run parallel with the S-Bahn line. The scope of work also includes the construction of two new tracks for regional rail traffic.

An island platform will be built for S-Bahn traffic, as well as a 220m-long regional service platform, which will have three new entrances.

Strabag will also renew and upgrade five railway bridges, construct 18,000m² of noise barriers and modernise overhead lines.

Trains are expected to be running on the completed line by 2027, at speeds of up to 160 km/h.
