Hexagon, the parent company of Leica Geosystems, is acquiring US-based companies, Surveyors Service Company and Haselbach Surveying Instruments. The two companies are leading distributors and service providers for surveying equipment in the Southwest of the US.

Ola Rollén, chief executive and president of Hexagon AB said, "Both companies are important elements in Hexagon's global growth strategy in the core surveying and construction markets. With these two acquisitions plus the actions we undertook in 2007 we are continuing to establish a solid foundation for Hexagon's Macro business in the region."

Meanwhile, Trimble has acquired Crain Enterprises based in Illinois in the US, a leading manufacturer of accessories for the geomatics, surveying, mapping, and construction industries.

Jim Veneziano, general manager of Trimble's construction division, said, "Crain will enable us to augment our existing product lines by offering accessories as part of our solutions portfolio. Since accessories are often key to achieving total system performance, this acquisition will enable us to better satisfy user needs."
