Technical Committee face-to-face meetings

21 November 2018

Following the success of the face-to-face meetings during Bauma in April 2016, ERA’s Technical Committee decided to organise two rounds of face-to-face meetings per year starting from 2017. It has brought more flexibility and allowed OEMs to appear only when they have something to present.

The second round in 2018 took place on 24 October, the day before the full committee meeting in Konz, hosted by Volvo CE. Ten equipment manufacturers responded positively to the invitation to participate.

For the first time, the rental companies of the Technical Committee decided to reduce the scope of topics and to focus on three major subjects:

  • Telematics solutions
  • Technical training and education,
  • Quality of PDIs.

The OEMs were free to address the other points usually covered during the face-to-face meetings (tie-down and lifting points, quick guides, etc.) but they have had already several opportunities to present on them.

On telematics solutions, a group of rental companies and OEMs met on 18 September, with the objective for rental companies to better understand the OEMs’ telematics roadmaps (technical side/intelligence side, focused on rental companies/end users).

Regarding technical training and education, the rental companies expect from the OEMs that they offer training adapted to their technicians (with training adapted from existing programmes or created for the rental companies) and for different levels.

The rental companies prepared a list of the main issues they encounter related to the quality of PDIs (pre-delivery inspections). They expect solutions from the OEMs.

If you are a rental company member of ERA and that you are interested in joining the Technical Committee and the face-to-face meetings, please do not hesitate to contact the ERA Secretariat, at era@erarental.org.
