Terex all terrain for Crane Rental Corporation
28 April 2014
Heavy haul, crane and rigging company Crane Rental Corporation, based in Orlando, Florida, USA, has added a 500 tonne Terex AC 500-2 all terrain crane to its fleet.
The 8-axle all terrain has a 17.1-metre long carrier, a working height of 145.8 m when configured with a luffing fly jib and a star-pattern outrigger layout to help provide the stability.
Alan Ashlock, company president, said, “I was speaking to some competitors and they sang the praises of the Terex AC 500-2 all terrain crane. The feedback was that it had superior capacities, yet it was a very mobile crane.”
Bob Renegar, president at Terex Cranes distributor Renegar-Driggers, said, “The AC 500-2 crane offers the highest lift capacities on eight axles in the 500 tonne class, as well as the longest system length that can travel at 10.9 tonnes per axle. Its carrier is 17.1 m long, so it also offers the shortest vehicle length in its class, which many customers want for navigating city streets.”
Crane Rental Corporation’s new model includes 180 tonnes of counterweight, a 78 m luffing jib, sideways superlift, a light fixed jib and the IC-1 control system. The first task for the AC 500-2 was to replace two air conditioning units at a pharmaceutical plant. For the task a 36 m jib was fitted to the cranes 56 m telescoping main boom section.
The second job for the all terrain was at a 20-storey building in Orlando, where the AC 500-2 helped replace equipment from an air conditioning unit on top of the building. Jobs included lifting steel structures and a cooling tower which weighed 9 tonnes. The crane was configured with 120 tonnes of counterweight, a 51.5 m boom and a 65.8 m luffing jib. Working at a radius of 33.5 m, the crane completed 100 picks in less than 30 hours, a company spokesperson said.
