Terex beats the clock in Tokyo

Human Ohya used its Terex AC 350/6 all terrain crane to dismantle a tower crane from the top of a 70 metre Shimizu Corporation office building in Tokyo, Japan. The project was carried out within a 24-hour timeframe and without the use of an auxiliary crane.

Local road regulations meant that the crane could not be transported with its boom on. Therefore, the main boom, luffing jib adaptor, three jib sections, outrigger plates, counterweight, hook block, secondary winch and independent boom launch system were delivered by five trucks.

The Human Ohya team used a 48 m luffing fly jib at 29 m working radius with 75.1 tonnes of counterweight during the tower crane dismantling process with the main boom deployed at 54.2 m. Components of the tower crane were then lifted down. Some weighed up to five tonnes and were 28 m long. It took 16 hours to dismantle the tower crane.
