Volvo dealer Swecon has boosted its operations in Germany by acquiring Baumaschinen Könicke, the Volvo dealer in northern Germany. Swecon is Volvo's dealer in central Germany.

Swecon is part of Sweden's Lantmannen Group and also Volvo dealer in Sweden and the Baltic States.

Both Swecon and Könicke offer construction rental in Germany and a spokesman for Volvo said that these rental activities would not be affected by the acquisition. After the acquisition, Swecon will operate 20 dealerships in central and northern Germany with approximately 500 employees.

Magnus Rosberg, president and chief executive officer of Swecon in Germany, said: "Acquiring Könicke will provide Swecon with positive synergies, which will improve our position in the German market. Broadening our offering and our competence is also something positive for us".

President of Volvo Construction Equipment Region Europe, Chris Rees, said: "We are very pleased that Swecon will be our future distribution partner in northern Germany. This is an important step that will be of great benefit to our customers."
