Wind power: Final turbine installed at BWTC

25 March 2008

Bahrain's tallest building, the 240 m Bahrain World Trade Center (BWTC), has completed installation of the last of three giant wind turbines.

Supported on three 75 tonne spans, at the 16th (61 m), 25th (97 m) and 35th (133 m) storeys that link the two buildings, the three 29 m diameter turbines will generate 15% of the BWTC's electricity. At the end of March the last of the three turbines was lifted into place, the culmination of over three years of intensive research and development by consultant Atkins andits Danishpartners, Ramboll and Norwin.
