World speed record with FPT engine

09 March 2018

Italian manufacturer of powertrains for industrial vehicles, FPT Industrial (FTP), has supplied the engine used to set a new diesel power boat world speed record.

The record was set by Italian motorboat builder and racer Fabio Buzzi, who reached a speed of 277.5 km/h on 7 March on Lake Como in Italy.

FPT said it worked with FB Design – Buzzi’s boat building company – to develop a new engine based on its 16 litre Cursor engine, which is usually used to power agricultural machinery. Once transformed into a marine engine, it was capable of producing more than 1,700 hp.

According to FTP, its collaboration with FB Design has resulted in a number of new marine concepts comprising exhaust manifold, turbocharging and cooling system innovations.
