XCMG brings scissor and boom production in-house
21 January 2016
Chinese construction equipment manufacturer XCMG is bringing the production of its self-propelled booms and scissor lifts in-house, having previously had them built by a third-party supplier.
The company’s range of scissors and booms have until now been produced by a third-party manufacturer based in China’s Zhejiang province, but from the middle of this year they will be made exclusively at XCMG’s production facilities in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province.
A spokesperson for the company told Access International that the move reflected the growing demand for booms and scissors in the domestic market, where the rental market is growing at a good rate.
Several of the models will be CE marketed for export markets, but the spokesperson said that export markets were not the priority; “For aerials the priority will be on the domestic market. So far, for XCMG the focus of exports has been with products where we are most experienced [such as excavators and wheeled loaders].”
The company exported just 100 aerial platforms during 2015, mainly to markets in South East Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. The best-selling export model is the 28 m telescopic boom, GKS28E.
The product range includes four scissor lifts with working heights from 7.6 m to 13.7 m, six telescopic booms from 22 to 40 m, and four articulating booms from 13 to 28 m.
XCMG also makes a range of truck mounted aerial platforms for industrial and fire-fighting applications, and has just announced a dealership agreement in India for the fire-fighting range.
