Mammoet installs longest module in Yamal

International heavy lift and transport specialist Mammoet has co-ordinated the offloading and arrival of the longest module for the Yamal LNG project in Russia.

On 1 November Netherlands-headquartered Mammoet transported the 5,400 tonne, 103-metre long module from a heavy transport ship to the dock using 400 axle lines of self propelled modular transporter (SPMT). At the buffer area, the module was jacked down. With the jacking operation completed the module was loaded onto SPMT and transported to the plant’s foundation. It was the 89th module to arrive at the foundation. A milestone for Mammoet was that it was the final component of the first LNG train to arrive.

The Yamal LNG project is construction of three LNG liquefaction trains on the Yamal Peninsula on the outer rim of Arctic Siberia. It will have an annual capacity of 16.5 million tonnes of gas. Mammoet is responsible for moving 150 modules and more than 1,200 smaller items from heavy transport ships in the port of Sabetta to the plant’s foundation. To move all of these components the company said it will use more than 1,700 axle lines of SPMT, claimed as the largest number ever to be used on a single project anywhere in the world.
