Power rentals on the up in southern Africa
The power rental market in sub-Saharan Africa is forecast to grow at a compound annual rate of 9.5% to 2014, according to a recently published report by consultant Frost & Sullivan.
Lavendon "resilient" despite weak markets
Revenues at the Lavendon Group fell 13% of a constant currency basis for the first five months of the year, with the UK, Belgium, France and Spain performing worst. In UK currency, total sales fell by just 5% for the five months and the company said its resilience against current economic conditions had improved during the period.

AMECO opens permanent office in Peru
AMECO, the equipment rental division of Fluor Corp, has established a permanent office in Peru three years after first entering the South American market. The business is a partnership with local partner Choice Cargo, a Peruvian transport and logistics company, and is being operated under the name Choice Equipos y Servicios, based in Lima.

Vietnam renters start to buy new equipment
Several Vietnamese rental companies are starting to invest in new compressors instead of the used Japanese units most commonly found in the country. Atlas Copco Airpower reports that two renters in the country have recently acquired new Chicago Pneumatic (CP) compressors, which are produced by Atlas Copco in China.

Australian rental industry to attract youth
The HRIA (Hire and Rental Industry Association) in Australia has created a Careers in Hire program. The initiative, launched at the 2009 HRIA Convention, directly targets school-age youth and is intended to counter a possible shortage of skills and workers.

UK rental company VP plc has reported almost identical revenues for the year to 31 March 2009, with sales up 1% to £150.9 million (€172 million) and net profits marginally down at £15.1 million (€17.2 million).
