UK Secretary of State Eric Pickles has given approval of the UK£ 4.5 billion (€ 5.5 billion) Wirral Waters project, following four years of master planning and public consultation. The Peel Group’s 1.7 million m2 regeneration scheme – the biggest of its type anywhere in the UK – is expected to generate more than 20000 new jobs over 30 years and will transform the economic fortunes of Birkenhead and Wallasey, as well as Wirral and the broader Liverpool City Region.
