A prototype of a new rail cutter is on show on the Demarec stand at bauma. According to Demarec’s Marcel Veining, production versions of the tool should be available in six months, following further on-site testing.

The tool will weigh in at 2,650 kg (5,830 lb) and is intended for use on carriers weighing from 20 to 35 tonnes and will be designated the RC 30.

A key element of the new tool is its compact design, with a substantially reduced tool width compared to the company’s current cutter. The RC 30 will provide full 360 degree rotation and a fast cycle time of 4.5 seconds.

Demarec has developed this special tool in the firm belief that using a standard scrap shear in this special application incurs considerable danger to the machine operator.
