Leica's iCON grade machine control system allows real-time 3D control of the wheeled loader blade

Leica used Bauma 2013 to debut its new iCON grade control technology – a 3D machine control system designed for wheeled loaders.

The iCONtrol device uses 3D design models and satellite GPS/GNSS technology to guide operators in real-time during grading jobs.

The powersnap cradle for the iCON grade control device allows it to be quickly interchanged between machines, giving extra flexibility on-site. Security is also increased as the device can be removed overnight or when the operator is away.

Stefan Dommert, from Leica’s machine control team, said, “The iCON grade control system uses touch-screen technology. Operators can switch between 2D and 3D views and can change the viewing angle smoothly and with a real-time perspective on the grade.”

iCONtrol also communicates with other sensors in Leica’s iCONstruct portfolio – enabling users to customize the technology they use.
