SHOWGUIDE: The North American Showcase

The Rental Show 2016 will be the American Rental Association’s 60th annual convention and rental trade show, taking place from 21st to 24th February at the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, US. Manufacturers from across North America and around the world will descend on the showground to unveil their latest innovations to international rental buyers.
Launches planned at the show include Ditch Witch’s new CX-series of walk-behind trenchers, where the focus has been on ease of use, reliability and serviceability. The C16X, C24X and C30X trenchers share a common, compact frame, equipped with powerful engines ranging from 16hp (12kW) to 30hp (22kW) and offer up to 48in (1.22m) of digging depth, depending on the model.
The CX track system has a longer right-side track, improving versatility to allow the machines to manoeuver in confined spaces, and fits on a variety of trailer options. The CX-series can also be equipped with the new 19K chain-digging system – making more efficient use of available power, resulting in up to 15% less horsepower usage.
And Ditch Witch will also have its C-series walk-behind trenchers on show in the form of the C12, C14 and C16 models, with engines ranging from 12hp (8.9kW) to 16hp (11.9kW), offering up to 30in (762mm) of digging depth depending on model. These models also feature the 19K chain system.
Charles Machine Works, which owns the Ditch Witch Brand, will also be showcasing its Subsite Electronics brand at the Ditch Witch booth. New from Subsite at the show will be the UtiliGuard Utility Locator, which measures distances (depth) both horizontally and vertically to the utility.
Dual output
A dual output feature allows users to connect the transmitter to two utilities at once, and the system is Bluetooth-enabled to simplify data transfers. Its rugged housing protects against a job site’s dusty, dirty and wet conditions, and its transmitter and receiver battery life is 100 and 30 hours, respectively.
Wacker Neuson, meanwhile, has added compaction detection system to its RTX trench rollers, and will be highlighting this at the Rental Show. The monitoring system, called Compatec, was designed to take the guesswork out of determining when soil has reached the ultimate compaction results.
A sensor near the drums measures the vibration level and determines how much the soil has been compacted. It consists of eight LEDs, and the number of lights illuminating will increase with each pass and will no longer increase once maximum compaction is achieved.
Wacker Neuson said this system was an excellent tool for less experienced operators and helps avoid unnecessary passes. Compatec will also warn the operator with all eight LEDs flashing when the machine is measuring an overload or over-compaction condition.
Wacker Neuson’s RTxSC3 (Smart Control 3) is operated with a line-of-sight infrared remote control that was designed with both operator and jobsite safety in mind.
With the RTxSC3, the operator remains out of the trench, away from the dust and noise of the machine, but must keep a line-of-sight from the controller to the receiving eye at all times.
And on display from Morbark will be the 12in (305mm) Beever M12RX to its product line. Key features include an aggressive single top feed wheel to increase chipping efficiency, together with engine options that address customers’ emissions regulations concerns. The M12RX is available with an 89hp (66kW) gasoline GM engine or a 74hp (55kW) Tier 4 Final Perkins engine.
The Morbark MXG50 Track Stump Grinder will also be on show, equipped with a 35hp (26kW) gasoline engine. Its compact size and power is combined with a 50in (1.27m) boom arc swing, cutting height of 21.5in (546mm) and cutting depth of 16in (406mm). An optional remote control system is also available.
The Morbark-owned Boxer brand will also be at the show, featuring the Boxer X7 Brush Chipper. This 7in (178mm) capacity chipper boasts an electronic fuel injected gasoline engine that the company claims is 25% more fuel efficient than carbureted models.
General Equipment Company, meanwhile, said it planned to introduce its new EP16ACP axial-flow confined space ventilation blower. This features a 16in (406mm) diameter inlet/outlet for greater air flow, powered by a 1hp (0.75kW) electric motor.
Designed for use in conventional confined space worksites such as manholes and sewers, and powerful enough to push air across large open areas, the new blower is said to be great for drying applications and improving indoor air quality.
Access showcase
Haulotte, meanwhile, will have a range of aerial work platforms on show including the HA61 RTJ, which has a working height of 61ft (18.6m); the STAR26 J, which offers 26ft 3in (8m) of platform height; and the HA46 RTJ PRO, with a maximum outreach of 27ft 3in (5.3m).
The 45XA light-weight self-propelled articulating boom will also be on show. This model underwent an upgrade in 2015, with improvements leading to better performance and serviceability, and offers a dual fuel gas/LP engine as an option.
The Haulotte 4527A trailer-mounted lift will also be on show, offering 51ft (15.5m) of maximum working height, together with the Optimum 1931 E, offering a platform height of 18ft 11in (5.5m).
Meanwhile, Custom Equipment will have its Hy-Brid HB-1430 low-level scissor lifts on display, featuring working heights up to 20ft (6m). The lifts have platforms that are 25in (635mm) wide by 60in (1.5m) long, with a 30in (762mm) slide-out extension, and can accommodate two people.
The manufacturer will also have its HB-1230 scissor lift on show, designed for projects on delicate flooring, including tile, laminate, raised floors and mezzanines, with lower potential for damage. It is also compact and has a zero turn radius for maximum reach in confined areas.This model has an 18ft (5.5m) working height.
On the generator side of the market, Cummins Power Generation will have its Tier 4 Final-certified mobile generators for the rental market on show. It said the 150 to 275kW rental packages were fully integrated mobile power generation systems providing optimum performance for rental power applications.
These products feature Tier 4 Final certified Cummins QSB7 and QSL9 engines which meet emissions limits without the use of a diesel particulate filter (DPF).
Cummins Power Generation’s Tier 4 Final rental generators feature switchable 50/60 Hertz dual frequency operation with multiple voltage configurations. The units are also equipped with the new PowerCommand 3.3 controller (PCC) with paralleling and advanced masterless load demand functionalities.
This is just a snapshot of the myriad of equipment that will be on show, with many other exhibitors planning to display their equipment
to a rental audience.
Avant Tecno USA, for instance, will be showcasing its line of multi-purpose compact loaders and attachments for the second year-in a row, while many other of the around 700 exhibitors expected at the event will have new products on show.
