Liebherr expands in US

Germany-based construction equipment manufacturer Liebherr plans to invest US$45 million in the expansion of its Newport News facility in Virginia, US.

The company has been operating in Newport News for more than 48 years, and this new investment shows that Liebherr is continuing to grow its operations in the US.

The new expansion will include the construction of three new buildings on an 11ha plot adjacent to Liebherr’s current manufacturing facility.

Once completed, the new facilities will provide a total of more than 23,000m² of floor space and will be occupied by Liebherr USA. The development will be home to Liebherr USA’s new headquarters and administrative building, as well as a production and workshop facility, and a warehouse and distribution building.

Torben Reher, managing director of Liebherr USA, said, “This expansion underlines our commitment and further strengthens our position in North America to deliver sustainable long-term growth and to offer exceptional and consistent experience to customers across the United States.”

Construction is slated to begin in July 2018, with completion set for the summer of 2020.
