Tata Steel has ordered a Texas Shredder PC for its upcoming steel scrap recycling plant in India.

Manufactured by Metso Metal Recycling, the Texas Shredder is a heavy-duty machine with double feed roll assemblies. It features an ‘autopilot’ control system which is said to maximise throughput, casting wear life and non-iron metal recovery.

Metso said the machine was designed to process traditional feedstock including white goods (large electrical goods used domestically), some structural members and whole vehicles.

Keith Carroll, Metso Metal Recycling’s business development director, said: “We are very honoured that Tata Steel is relying on our proven metal shredding technology, which is among the most comprehensive in the industry.”

Tata’s new facility, said to be the country’s first scrap recycling plant, will have an electric arc furnace and a capacity of around 500,000 tonnes per year, according to Projects Today. The plant is due for completion at the end of the company’s current fiscal year.
