Domenico Campogrande is to be the next director general of FIEC (the European Construction Industry Federation), and will take over from Ulrich Paetzold on 1 July, 2019.

The FIEC steering committee unanimously decided to appoint Campogrande, and presented its decision to the general assembly.

Campogrande studied economics, and has been working for FIEC since 1994. He was responsible for economic and legal affairs until 2007, and since then has been the director for social affairs.

He said, “I am honoured by this new challenge, which I will undertake with motivation and dedication. For this I am counting on the support and the active co-operation of all the member federations.”

FIEC has 31 national member federations in 27 European countries – 24 EU, two within EFTA, and Turkey.

It claims to represent, “without discrimination”, construction enterprises of all sizes, from one-person craftsmen and SMEs through to large international firms, from all building and civil engineering capabilities, engaged in all kinds of working methods, whether operating as general/main contractors or as sub-contractors.

FIEC said this wide-ranging level of representation had been officially recognised in a study undertaken on behalf of the European Commission, with FIEC seen as the social partner representing employers in the European Sectoral Social Dialogue, Construction.
