David, who represents the third generation of the Ohio based SG Loewendick & Sons business, was honoured by his peers at the event in Phoenix, Arizona.

His close friend Dan Costello, a contemporary who founded Costello Dismantling nearly 40 years ago, described David as attending every NDA meeting for 18 years.

“It can’t be overstated how David has changed this industry for the better,” said Dan.

A former NDA president, David also served 12 years on the association’s executive board, having been a founder member of the NDA’s forerunner the NADC.

In his acceptance speech, David said he had decided to retire “when I realised I had become the old guy in the corner at board meetings.”

But on a more serious note, he paid tribute to the people around him during a long career both inside and outside the NDA.

“You can look good pulling into port, but people can’t see the 50 people below who are shovelling coal. And I have had some great people shovelling coal for me.

“It’s time to take a step back for the very good generation of leaders we have now.”
