Kier Plant, a member of the Kier Group in the UK, has taken delivery of a new Hitachi Sumitomo SCX700 lattice boom crawler crane.

The 70 tonne capacity Japanese crane can have up to 54 m of main boom and 18 m of jib. It was supplied by UK distributor NRC Plant.

This delivery marks a return to crawler cranes by Kier Plant following development over the last few years of its tower crane rental business. "Crawler cranes will feature increasingly in the Kier Plant crane fleet to service the Kier Group construction division's capability in new power station and infrastructure projects," according to NRC Plant.

The crane was erected and commissioned at the £100 million (US$ 145 million) Kier Construction West Burton power station project for energy company EDF. It is the first of nine cranes of various types to be deployed on the civil engineering works.
