Maxim overcomes dual lift challenge

Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, USA-based Maxim Crane Works completed a challenging dual pick at an energy plant in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The company chose two 450 US ton (400 tonne) Grove GMK6400 wheeled mobile telescopic cranes for the delicate lift, which was a 75 US ton (68 tonne) vessel lift at the facility.

The biggest hurdle was manoeuvring the orientation of the vessel – it was situated north to south, but need to be placed through a roof hatch aligned east to west.

To facilitate the dual rigging, Maxim used a 100 ton (91 tonne) beam with a centre lug that acted as a swivel to rotate the vessel when placed over the roof hatch. The work took about a day.
