Wroclaw, through the MPK Wroclaw public transport provider, has become the second Polish city, after Gdynia, to purchase units of the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G articulated buses.

The city will take delivery of 11 buses in Q3 2023.

The eCitaro G buses featurea second-generation nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery cells. In the buses, they will have a capacity of 396 kWh.

While depot charging will initially be used to power the units, officials in Wroclaw said that they hope to further install a pantograph-based charging system on the bus routes.

The battery packs use an intelligent thermal management system. This helps to maximise range during both the summer and winter. Heating and air conditioning is based on a CO2 heat pump connected to a water circuit. This reduces energy consumption in comparison to a side wall heater with blowers.
