UK equipment hire company A-Plant has launched a new training course in vehicle marshalling.

The course is aimed at employees who are appointed to control the movement of vehicles and plant at work.

According to figures from the Health & Safety Executive, there were 20 fatal workplace vehicle injuries in 2011/12. This was around 12% of the total number of fatal injuries to workers, whereas vehicle injuries accounted for only 2% of non-fatal injuries.

The half-day vehicle marshalling course includes a question session, an associated knowledge session for the safe operation of the machine types, and health & safety regulations - namely PUWER, LOLER, HSE signals and signs.

Bob Harper, head of training at A-Plant, said: “Health & safety training is not optional for businesses, especially in the industry we operate and for our customers in the construction industry.

"A-Plant is committed to reducing industry problems and accidents by providing comprehensive and accurate training which will not only keep employees safe but also improve their confidence in work activities.”

A-Plant has also opened three new training centres at its depots in Milton Keynes, Norwich and Watford. The hire firm also provides training courses at customer sites.
