UK rental company A-Plant has won 'Best Contribution to Health & Safety' Award for the second year running at the Hire Association Europe 2009 'Hire Awards of Excellence'.

A-Plant's chief executive officer, Sat Dhaiwal, said: "We are thrilled to win the HAE Health & Safety Award for the second year running. We were also delighted to be shortlisted for HAE's 2009 'Excellence in Customer Care' and 'Tool, Equipment and Plant Hire Company of the Year' Awards at this year's event."

A-Plant can also announce that it has been recommended by the British Standards Institute (BSI) for dual certification to both the ISO 14001:2004 standard and OHSAS 18001:2007 specification covering health and safety and environmental procedures. The dual recommendation by the BSI is the first to be achieved by a national rental company in Europe.

For the second year running, A-Plant, has also won a Gold Occupational Health and Safety Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and was the winner of The Access Industry Training Award at the first IAPAs (International Awards for Powered Access) organised by Access International and IPAF.

Mr Dhaiwal said, "At A-Plant, health and safety management is a primary focus, covering both the company's workforce and the customers who use the company's products. As shown by the raft of health and safety awards and certifications we have won recently, we are achieving our aim to continue to raise the bar in health and safety and have made a substantial investment in training initiatives and our organisational procedures to ensure the safety of our employees and customers."

A-Plant is part of the Ashtead Group plc which has more than 2000 employees and over 30000 customers in the construction, civil engineering and DIY markets. It hires plant, tools and specialist equipment from over 150 locations nationwide - its fleet includes powered access equipment, telehandlers, dumpers and excavators and extends, to smaller equipment including air tools, gardening equipment and lifting and safety equipment, as well as specialist equipment such as traffic systems, accommodation units and rail equipment.
