The first Apex 70 high reach demolition excavator that was carrying out the demoltion of the Ford Auditorium in Detroit ended up lying on its left side following an incident on site last Friday.

The machine, the result of a Jewell/Caterpillar co-operative project and owned by Detroit contractor Adamo Group, had started work on site little more than a week before. Fortunately nobody was seriously injured in the accident, with the operator reportedly escaping with little more than cuts and bruises.

The accident is now the subject of investigation.
